On the 22nd July in the Committee of the Glandore Harbour Yacht Club sign
the necessary paper work to complete the purchase of the new GHYC Club House. Present were Diarmuid O'Donovan (Commodore) John Dowling, Karen Horgan, Peter Roberts, Pat O'Riordan and Club Member Patricia Mallon who gave much needed assistance to the team in the capacity of solicitor. All we need now are the keys so we can start to use the new facility.

The club has been engaged over the last number of years in various fundraising activities with the eventual aim of providing the Club and Glandore Community with a suitable premises. The club will continue to follow all suitable opportunities in this regard. On Wednesday August 2nd 2005 The Club made a presentation of Honorary Life family Membership to Alison Zwollner Downes to mark her generous donation to the Club to support our efforts to provide a suitable club premises.
Unfortunately, the cost of developing the site, which is very steeply rising rock, and building the Clubhouse, is beyond the ability of the Club to raise or borrow the funds necessary at this time. Thus, when a cottage in the village, close to the pier, came on the market, the club members voted to purchase it, subject to planning for a change of use, to enable our essential requirements to be met at an early date.
The planning application for the change of use was lodged with the planning office at the end of March,2012 and we are hopeful of a decision in our favour before the end of June 2012. A Fire certificate and a Disabled Certificate will then be applied for, and hopefully, when that work is complete, the club will, at last, have it’s own premises.
