2009 Regatta Report

 

The annual Glandore Regatta, kicked off as usual last Friday morning with the Schull to Glandore Ocean Race. This is a great way of staging the return to Cork after the hectic weeks of holidays and regattas in west Cork. This year the races was started from the Sailing center line and two boats entered the race, a real two horse race.
The winner of the Ocean Cup on corrected time was Padraig O’Donovan of KYC sailing Chameleon, Vincent Tubb of GHYC sailing Kyachtic gave padraig a good run for his money on the day!
After a very dull and damp start to the day, Sundays regatta started in sunshine, with the cruiser fleets first gun at 13.30. There were entries for Class 1 Class II and Class III, there were also starts for Dragon, Squib, Laser, Topaz, All in Dinghy and Dayboats. Race management was done by Adrian Bendon with Peter Roberts and Michael Sculley.
Entries for the Cruiser classes was down since last year but for club classes we had an increased entry buoyed largely by the squib class who have been racing actively through July and August this year. There is great interest in getting more boats into the club fleet here in Glandore for next year.Next weekend Friday to Sunday the South Coast Dragon Championships will be held this is always a popular event.
